European Youth Works European History
WORCATION is an international youth exchange with the character of a workcamp. Participants live and work together. The group takes part in different workshops during the day. The workshops revolve around the the Second World War an around POWs imprisoned in Stalag VIII A which was established during the Second World War in Görlitz. Today it is a place of memory and education for people from all around the world. It is located in the Europeaen City Görlitz-Zgorzelec – a german-polish border town.
WORCATION 2018 Participants:
Young adults aged 16-26 from Germany, Poland, Italy, Ukraine and France can take part.
WORCATION 2018 Language:
Participants should be able to speak and understand English on a communicative level. There will be translators in the team but the main language is English.
WORCATION 2018 Workshops:
„In touch with history“
This workshop takes place on the historical grounds of former POW camp Stalag VIII A. In cooperation with a professional archaeologist participants uncover original artefacts which have to be cleaned and registered afterwards. During the workshop participants also learn how to get to the bottom of historical issues such as photos and documents and how to interpret them.
“Art meets history – visualising history”
Making some parts of the past visible again. That´s the goal of this workshop. There is not much left of the barracks of POW camp Stalag VIII A. So how could the group visualize some aspects of daily camp live so others can get in touch with it? Maybe use some light, cloth or other visual effects. A pack of artists will support the group and help them to achieve their self-given goal.
WORCATION 2018 – Group life, free time, accommodation and food:
The group will be accommodated in a house (Jugendherberge Peregrinus) in the old town in multilateral rooms. There will be time to learn languages, get to know each other and for exchange.
Together the group will have to organize itself and cook, shop and clean and define the evenings for themselves.
WORCATION 2018 Fees:
Participants will have to pay a fee of 100,00€ in total.
Food lodging and the workshops are covered 100%. Travel costs cannot be refunded.
