Görlitz-Zgoerzelec, at the border of Germany and Poland
Our Workcamp “WORCATION” means creative and international work in a historical place. The project revolves around the place, which has been almost forgotten for decades – the former prisoner of war camp Stalag VIII A in Zgorzelec. There is so much to do – digging, sweeping, cleaning, welding, bending and at the same time contemplating. But there is also a lot of fun – chilling out, having barbecues, swimming and exploring the magnificent region. Every year in the beginning of WORCATION a group of 30 young people comes together in Görlitz-Zgorzelec on the German-Polish border. After two weeks all of them feel that they have changed with experience, they are closer to people from other countries, speak foreign languages and talk about history.
During the WORCATION there are 2 workshops: one of them take place on the grounds of former POW camp Stalag VIII A in Zgorzelec. In change one part of the group takes care and cleans up the area while the other part has the opportunity to partake in a professional archeological workshop. The second group engages their creativity in a metal workshop. The sculptures designed and constructed during the metal workshop are linked to the history of Stalag VIII A and are dedicated to be placed on the former camp grounds in te end of the project.
Beside the work, there will be enough time for relaxing, sightseeing and enjoying a great summer time.
We spend the nights in a hostel in the historic city centre of Görlitz.
